How Your Choice of Tubing Affects Aseptic Connection

There are many things to consider when creating and engineering bioprocessing equipment. Weighing efficacy and costs of tubing is one of the most important.

First, you need to consider the type of fluid you want to transfer along with the nature of your application. Opting to use the wrong tubing, can lead to leaching of tube particulates into the liquid or absorption of the liquid into the tube wall. Of course there are industry standard formulations of bioprocess tubing that are best suited to specific fluid types, but the most common choice is platinum-cured silicone tubing. Not only does it offer the lowest risk of extractables, it is fully autoclavable and sterilizable. Since platinum-cured silicone tubing cannot be welded, consideration should also be given to how to connect and disconnect the tubing while maintaining sterile conditions.

By using AseptiQuik Connectors from CPC, sterile connections can be made quickly and with a low risk of operator error. The integrated pull tabs on each side of the genderless connector act as a protective cover while ensuring simultaneous removal of both membranes. Available in a variety of sizes (1/8” to 1”), all AseptiQuik Connectors offer CPC’s audible click to confirm the connection.
